Owing to ill health I am no longer doing my leather work
Hand carved Leather
The art of working a design into leather is known as embossing, tooling, stamping and hand carving.
I consider my work to be 'fine art on leather'. I carve my own designs or I can work from your artwork and produce items of real distinction.
I carve leather pictures, it is very satisfying to see your work lifting from the page as it were. I do not sell my pictures, I am hoping to have an exhibition one day and to find a market for my 'art on leather'. Most people consider leather items to be 'craftwork'' and to be priced at the bottom of the scale, I feel that my pictures are art and should be sold as art- I Just need to educate the art buying public!!! The last project I worked on was a picture of 'The Brendan' which was a leather boat that sailed from Ireland to America in an attempt to add substance to the legendary voyage of Saint Brendan. It is a wonderful story and was written about in a book by Tim Severin. The piece of leather I am using is an actual offcut from one of the hides used to make the Brendan, it was tanned in the old fashioned oak bark method at a tannery in Grampound close to where I live.
